Blue Beetle RebirthBLUE BEETLE REBIRTH #1
DC COMICS

(W) Keith Giffen (A/CA) Scott Kolins
Lost in the desert with no memory of the past few years, teenager Jaime Reyes must find his way home again-but when he reaches his town, he’s shocked to find it abandoned and in the hands of government officials…officials who are very interested in the Blue Beetle and the scarab that gives him his power! How can Jaime find his family and uncover the secret behind the town’s seizure-and why Kord Industries is helping keep the world from learning the truth?

Back in the day, Blue Beetle was one of those characters that always put a smile on my face. I’m talking the Ted Kord days, so WAY back in the day! But, with time, Ted Kord became one of those characters that was used more as the butt of every joke than as a “real” superhero. Eventually the character joined the grim and gritty crowd and was promptly killed in the opening chapter of “Infinite Crisis”.

Later in that same book we were introduced to Jaime Reyes, a teenager living in El Paso, who becomes the new Blue Beetle. I’ll admit, I was not a fan of Jaime at first but eventually the character grew on me and I enjoyed both solo series he had as well as the Teen Titans run he was a part of.

But I always missed Ted Kord.

But Ted Kord fans can rejoice! He’s back and it looks like he’ll be taking on a mentoring role to young Mr. Reyes. I, for one, am excited! Rebirth has been good for so many DC characters already and with Blue Beetle getting another chance to shine, this is easily the book I am looking forward to the most this week! Michael

Invincible #130INVINCIBLE #130
IMAGE COMICS
(W) Robert Kirkman (A) Cory Walker (CA) Ryan Ottley, Jean-Francois Beaulieu
Mark never wanted to return to Earth… but now he finds himself face-to-face with Robot, and no matter how hard he tries he just can’t forget all the evil he has done. This could get ugly.

Once again my pick for the week is the new issue of Invincible. With Kirkman’s announcement that the series will be ending at issue #144 each issue has become more important, both to the overall plot and to me… My favorite superhero series is coming to an end!…. This issue marks Mark’s return to Earth. This of course will lead to a new confrontation with Robot… Can Mark swallow his hate for Earth’s mightiest protector or will war break out on the 3rd rock from the sun before Thragg can even make his triumphant return? I don’t know and I can’t wait to find out. – Graydon
